    Body Armor Question Empty Body Armor Question

    Post by Nkomo Tue Jun 08, 2010 12:48 am

    I was wondering if anyone knew what type or even if the USSF types wore during the 1st Gulf War? I do not have many pictures of USSF personnel from that time period. Any help is appreciated!

    They didn't wear body armors. They did occasionally use flak vest but not as often.

    Yes, I think that so. The first body armor used by special troops was Ranger Body Armor, but it appears later, around 1993. The RBA was made especially for Rangers in Somalia. Before, they use the PASGT Flak vest or private purchase.

    Great information, guys! Very Happy I was planning on doing a Desert Storm USSF display and was wondering what type armor they used. I could get away with the PASGT vest or no vest at all.

    I have always liked the picture of the guys standing in front of the Kuwait Embassy. One of the few pictures I know that shows not only the tan American Body Armor (ABA) but a 6-Color modified jacket as well.

    I'm not specialized in gulf war 1, but do not forget they used covers in desert 6 colors for their PASGT Flak Vest ;

    P-E, Arch asked if US. Special Forces (USSF) worn body armor. The photo you showed is regular infantry.

    yes I know it's regular army and I also understand Arch search informations about USSF. I speak only about body armor, to show they worn cover in desert 6 colors for flak vest. It's not exclude than SOF also use that sort of cover...

    And do not forget that flak vest is common for all ground troops at this period.

    But if you absolutely need picture with USSF wearing the PASGT with 6 colors cover, here's some ;

    (this is copyrighted picture...so only available online at this link).

    And here's another ;

    American Special Forces treat an Iraqi prisoner wounded by a mine while crossing the Kuwaiti border in the desert.

    Now, you can see USSF also used PASGT flak vest with cover...so there's no typical model for SF, they worn everything they will, depending on operational needs. That the reason why they are absolutely not intersting for collectors : "you can put everything on them, it's always good". And it also not interesting for collection, because there's some fake item from SF.

    General concesus is that SF would/could wear a PASGT with 6-Color cover or no vest at all. Good enough for me. NOW.....has anyone seen any SF types wearing the OD green Tanker/CVC vest? What about post-DS time period?

    No, they didn't wear CVC armor. This armor is basically smaller profile flak vest designed for crewman. I may be wrong though.
