Do any of you know what this rank is? I know that the badge is for the Popular Army, but I have never seen a green stripe on a shoulder slide before.

I am just trying to get an idea as to what it is. There just is nothing that I can find on line about what it could be.

Some of the information I found out about the Insignia is that it was worn by District Commanders. The District Commanders were in charge of the districts of their areas which were over seen by the Sector Commander that controlled up to 10 bases in their sector.

Knowing that they were civil volunteers they still wore uniforms, and protected the Ba'ath from the Regular Army. The Ba'ath Republic took what Abd al Karim Qasim did to the king of Iraq in the 14 July Revolution. The Free Officers and the military rose up against the kingdom to start a new Republic so the Popular Army was established to prevent this action taking place again.

    Thank you

    Lorenzo

I read that in 1997 the Ba'ath Government Joint Committee were tasked to up the ranks of the Popular Army to one million. They took school teachers and students and one member of each house hold to join the Popular Army. Ages were from 18-65 which were required to have 2-3 hours of weapons training for approximately 40 days.

Popular Army Civil Section Comanders Rank set, I am very interested in it. If you would like to part with it I am willing to pay what you ask. This is strange to say becuse I was the one who sold them to you...

    Thank you

I think these are humped up fabrications of a certain IMI Militaria dealer... Pretty sure you know who I mean. Scott

    Thanks guys.

    Scott,

I know what you mean, but these are not them. The ones you are talking about have a different ribbon stripe material. I have been seeing a lot of those on Ebay. This one(and the one above from several years ago) is different construction and material composition than those seen by that faker.

    Regards

Paul. sorry for the delayed response but after challenging these on the other forum we now have some pics of the boards in use by the Popular Army. The problem is, it appears that the badge isa fabrication... Someone did post one pic that could show that badge but its not clear. My take is simple, the badge is and always will be a Popular Army cap badge, and the boards will be Popular Army boards, together they are probably some fabrication. Hope this helps, Scott.
