A pair of Iraqi Uniforms Empty A pair of Iraqi Uniforms

Post by bryanbg Fri Jun 02, 2017 10:58 pm

Today I found two Iraqi uniforms.

The first one is a U.S.-made (I think) older "chocolate chip" style jacket.  This top has epaulets affixed to the shoulders.

The second is a jacket & pants set.  Made in China, this set appears to be a light weight DCU-similar pattern.   Upon closer inspection I noticed brief shadow, as well as cut threads, where Iraqi Commando patches/scroll/wings wee removed.  I have a set of these patched displayed on my office wall (I brought back from Iraq).

Should I obtain another set and have them affixed to this jacket, in order to restore it

To repatch or not to repatch. That is the question. (Credit to William Shakespeare. Bill to his friends from what I understand.)

Personally, I wouldn't but certainly wouldn't argue against it if you wanted to.

    Follow up:

I got my hands on a set of the appropriate Iraqi patches and had this top redone as it originally was.  It came out nicely.

Also, here's a weird find.  In the upper right pocket I discovered this blister pack of some sort of pain medication.  Marked from Iraq.  I placed it in a plastic baggie and returned it to the pocket.  I'll do some research on what this drug is, and take appropriate measures if it's something I shouldn't have here (if it's an illegal substance, I might flush the pills away, but keep the blister pack).

    Bryan,

Dextropropoxyphene is an opioid analog, and a weak pain killer similar to Tramadol. Legally, it is Schedule IV controlled substance (like Tramadol), so you may potentially run afoul of law - although with 1 dose any consequence is unlikely. Paracetamol = Acetaminophen. When combined together, those drugs are marketed as Darvocet and Davron.

Personally, I'd keep it exactly as it is. It is a pretty unique thing to have in a collection. It always amazes me the things we find as pocket litter.
