I was wondering what condition do you like your items to be in when you buy them. I personally like all my items to be used and abused. I figure that since I do combat displays....that used and abused looks the best.

Re: Collecting Preference
Any condition in which I can get them.
But I agree, it's always fun to have an item with a cool story behind it.

You and me both buddy. Whatever I have I enjoy, regardless of condition. But a good used item just has that feeling to it!

Re: Collecting Preference
Yes...there's just "something" about a good used item.
Is it just me or does anyone else really enjoy that kinda musty surplus smell?

Re: Collecting Preference
I love the military surplus smell as well! I've always said that a perfume company should somehow bottle that smell and sell it to the wives of military collectors. If they do that, they would have a population explosion in the military collecting world!Ben wrote:Yes...there's just "something" about a good used item.

Re: Collecting Preference
Yes, a population explosion indeed.
And we'd have bottles on-hand so we could keep our "war rooms" smelling nice & surplus-like.

Re: Collecting Preference
Right now we all would rather used but in 20 or so years later. The mint items would become more harder to find the vouch after by collectors so they could have a unissued examples. Take a look at Vietnam War stuff.
I voted for used.

Re: Collecting Preference
Let them have mint. I'll still take mine used and abused! Seriously....I can see all the arguements. It is all personal choice.Mercenary25 wrote:Right now we all would rather used but in 20 or so years later. Re: Collecting Preference
Everything I have was given to me by various servicemen and relatives. My favorite item is my uncles field jacket from Korea and I still wear it occasionally. I break out the Gortex when it gets cold and generally knock around the house in one of my sets of BDU's. I also have about 50 M16 mags and likewise in Beretta mags and holders.
I carry a rucksack instead of a briefcase because I can fit more stuff in it, sort it by type of item (paperwork, aspirin, allergy meds, snuff and junk, wallet, each in their own place and easy to find). In my office I have a BDU K pot, a training claymore, some deactivated mortar shells, a 20 mm casing, a 50 cal round, and (not really relevant) three models of WWII aircraft, various stickers from fighter wings, and several pins. I have print of a Hurricane and Messerschmidt going at it, a B25 inbound, and a p38 in flight being framed, and I'm looking to replace my biplanes with WWII (I want a Pony, A Spitfire VIII, and believe it or not a C47) as soon as I can.
Nice place you guys have here. I thought I was the only guy that liked to collect this kind of stuff. All of my co workers think I'm nuts but that's what they get for the owners wife telling me I needed to decorate because my office was too 'sterile'
