Dummy Iraqi tanks and SCUDs during Desert Storm ? Empty Dummy Iraqi tanks and SCUDs during Desert Storm ?

    Post by P-E Sat Apr 11, 2015 12:13 pm

I've read that the Iraqi army used some inflatable / dummy tanks and scuds missiles to perturb the intelligence and make fake targets for aerial bombing. I just read a CNN article who says that : "The Iraqis are adept at deception and camouflage; they know how to adapt and defeat overhead imagery. For example, during the Gulf War, U.S. forces shot up hundreds of 'dummy Scud warheads' and 'inflatable tanks' from the air," a military spokesman says.

Do you guys have more information about that ? Do you eventually have pictures of such dummy tanks / scuds ?

    thanks for your reply

The book, Mother of all Battles, details Iraqi deception operations during Desert Storm. No pics though. Tom

They did make dummy tank positions by pushing up dirt and topping it off with an old non-operational turret.

Thank you for your replies. I didn't found the inflatable tanks and scuds, but found pictures of fake tanks at the following link : http://www.evidence.org.kw/photos.php?page=0341_Iraqi-Tank-Decoy
