Black Painted Iraqi Helmet

Hi everyone,

I just picked this helmet up in a grouping, and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. From what I can tell, it is the last pattern of Iraqi helmets that were made before OIF. What I find so unusual about this helmet is the paint on it. It is a semi glossy black enamel type paint. I believe it is an authentic paint job simply because the helmet and liner have actual wear to them. There is also a name written inside the sweat band. What do you guys make of this? I'm wondering if it could be a navy helmet? I'm really not sure on this one, so I'd like to hear what everyone has to say.

I also have one of the same model painted black. I have never figured out why it was painted black. I'm hoping someone here can answer that question.

I've been thinking it could be for those who wore black. So this could be police or navy potentially? I wouldn't really consider Fedayeen, as they had their own helmets. This is a real mystery, but I'm glad to know that my helmet isn't some fantasy piece! Do you know what region of Iraq your helmet came from? That could help narrow the search potentially.
