French qualification patches for ANA Officers Empty French qualification patches for ANA Officers

Post by JYN Sun Jul 01, 2012 1:23 pm

    Hello,

Since February 2003, the French mission “Operation Epidote” has been training Afghan Officers.

One of the goal that this detachment is conducting is Specialized Training, with ‘Operational Training Detachments’ (Détachements d’Instruction Opérationnelle – DIO) for Afghan Officers in the fields of Intelligence and Administration.

This patch has been created by French officers of the 2e Régiment de Hussards which is belonging to the French Intelligence Brigade. It was given to Afghan Officers who did succeed to the Intelligence course.

Main part of the patch is inspired from the 2e Régiment de Hussards qualification badge.

    Jyn,

Thanks for the ID on this! I picked up a couple of variations of this and had no idea what it was!

Excellent! Thanks for the information JYN! A buddy of mine in-theatre sent me one of these but like Mike we had no idea what it it is/was. This forum never ceases to amaze me! Thanks again!!

    Jean,

I went and checked the stuff I have sorted through. I was mistaken and only found one variation. There may be another in the other bin full of stuff that is still jumbled together. I'll try to make time to look through that stuff and get it organized. The one variation that I found is the same but the background color on mine is light grey instead of green like yours.

Dug mine out and it is photographed below. This one has more of an ACU look as far as the color of the background and border. This may be more in line with Mike's example as he described it above. It also does not have the star at the bottom of the flag banner which is clearly seen in JYN's piece that started the thread. There is also quite a bit of difference in the overall embroidery; as an example compare the wings in detail. This patch is backed with black velcro.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting this variation. Completly different from my patch. Left owl's wing is shorter on mine comparing to your patch as wings have the same size.

    Hello,

It could be. The Owl is the symbol of Military Intelligence in France. I really don't know if this is the same in other countries.

Anyway, thank you for posting this patch.
