UAE Desert Parka? Empty UAE Desert Parka?

Post by AndyD Sun Dec 04, 2011 4:59 pm

    Hello,
This is my first post on this forum,so thought I'd post it in here as I didn't know where to put it!

I know the UAE have been active in the Gulf so when I spotted this on ebay I thought I'd have a punt!

    Seems I can't post links,try this,item number, 130606758745 on UK ebay

Anyway, I won it,but,is it the real deal?

Please pardon my ignorance if it's completely bogus as I normally 'specialise' in UK DPM/MTP.

    Kind regards,
    Andy

Well, the first step is presentation in this topic : https://oefoif.forumotion.net/f6-introductions to present you for other members. But well, for sure you're welcome aboard Razz

About the parka, I'm not certain because I'm more interested in US stuff. But in my opinion, it's not an issued jacket, but more a commercial piece. In UAE, they speak arabic so a tag in english without arabic it's strange for an issued item in Arab countries.

And what would you mean when you say "UAE have been active in the gulf" ? Involved in the war ?

Again, that's only my opinion and I'm not an expert...

    Thanks for the reply,appreciated!

I recall seeing something on the web stating that UAE had provided a small force for the coalition.

If you speak about the Operation Desert Storm (90-91), then yes,UAE sent soldiers to assist Kuwait and several hundred troops were involved in the conflict.

In Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom (post 2003) ? I don't never heard that, so if you can find the link again, it'll interess me ! Well, during the shape of the OPLAN, the UAE only authorized the use of military bases and fly over his territory. Out of that, they provided humanitarian assistant to Iraqi, and probably also some training for security forces (?).

If you can find the link again, it'll be realy great !

Guys just a quick FYI..... It was not well known.... for obvious resons, but i know for a fact the UAE had a number of SF troops working out of Bagram in 2008. At that time the uniforms were a mix of 3 colour desert BDUs (made in the UAE with fantastic UAE marked buttons, i'll take pics soon and post) and their, at the time, trial Digital uniforms.

Jas you've got a UAE SF group deployment patch there, my 3 colour camo set is badged and has the dagger and shield on the shoulder which is their standard SF badge (central design on your patch). Like the US the UAE has wings, combat badges and qual badges for anything and everything you can think of as well.

    Cheers, Aj
