Desert Night Camouflage Pants Empty Desert Night Camouflage Pants

Post by BM Wed May 09, 2018 11:37 am

I have a few questions for those who know more about camouflage clothing than I do.
The pants have an elastic waist with drawstring, side zippers for reaching in to undergarments and a back pocket. The
bottom of the legs have zippers to make it easier to put on pants with boots on but no drawstring to close off bottoms.
Is this set of pants issued by the govt. or private purchase?
Is (Was) it authorized for wear?
I had  tough time finding the labels. They were in the back pocket.
    Thank you in advance.
    Bob

    Bob,
Good afternoon. Are these trousers the reversible ones with the DCU on the other side? This is one of those items that crosses over between commercial, and government issue. When I say government issue in my mind that means it has an NSN in/on the label. That's just me.

I received the jacket version of this (reversible) from a unit for use. The organization was at Ft. Bragg and they stood up and deployed teams in support of security assistance. More than likely the items were sourced commercially with program funds. Is it commercial? Yes. Was it issued? Yes, at least in my case.

    Jeff,
Thank you for your reply. The pants are all sand color inside and no pattern to it.
    See picture.

Hadn't seen those before Bob. Like I mentioned my jacket was the traditional DCU/Night Camouflage reversible. It was made by the same manufacturer. I recognized the tag instantly.

    I did indeed.

My set was issued 5th Special Forces Group - we were a designated "desert" unit.  I got mine when I was assigned to the Group in '86, and I was able to keep it.  We received a lot of items - mostly experimental and/or commercial - which our PBO didn't want returned.

I'm sure that there are some of these out there, but I honestly haven't really seen any since I've started collecting this stuff.  I'd say you made a good find!

This is me wearing the top (during the Gulf War '91).  The other photo is my jacket and pants hanging on a coat rack outside my 'man cave,' along with a few of my other old uniform items.

Thanks for the information. This set of pants also came from Col. (retired) Jim Noll but I never asked him about them as i packed them away and
had forgotten all about them until I was cleaning closets and found them.
