An active duty 82nd Airborne guy I know brought this back last year. He would not sell it, but let me take pictures of the uniform.

Any input or info is welcome....

    Thought I would share,

To think I had a whole conex full of these at one time! And it isn't an Airborne shirt really. Never figured out why, but a good majority of the MOI and MOD forces utilize the wings. All of my guys did, and I can guarantee that they weren't Airborne Very Happy

Here are a few samples of them being worn. These were all MOI folks. Some wore the stylized version as you can see in the first photo..

Yep, it seems like any iraq soldier certainly from pics, wore the jump wings and special forces patch regardless of specialist qualification.

Hooviedude, the patch on the pic of the soldier in woodland, he's wearing the "lion brigade" patch, it's a parachute, lion's head and iraq flag on each side where wings would be. I've never heard of a designation for the unit but think they were in 8th Iraq Div. Do you have a unit designation for them?

    Their's a similar version with a wolf's head.

Do you think that's akin to the U.S. Army making the black beret army-wide issue, so that everybody could feel "special"?

I think, as someone mentioned in another thread. When starting a new army from the ground up, giving out highly regarded or "impressive" looking insignia is a cheap way to build esprit de corps. This is exactly what transpired when the soviet union broke up and myriads of units were created, often by unit members.

The wings and the birdhead patch are a holdover and virtually identical to the ones worn in the Hussein regime. Also, it's my understanding these patches can be picked up at the tailor shops so the troops can "tart up" the uniform a bit. I suspect it's getting more controlled now tho, as newer photos show pretty standardized insignia, but they still seem to use lots of the "novelty" patches (like swat, and para)

Zvez, not too sure about IA. These guys were the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade of the 1st Special Police Commando Division in Baghdad at the time. They used the Lions Head insignia then, but the organization as a whole is now known as the National Police. Also worked with the 3rd BN in Samarra, but cannot recall what insignia they might have used. Will have to look at more of my pics. I have a couple of the patches at the house for the 1st BN.
In the last Pic, the guy in the MARPAT looking uniform is from last year, and he was a member of the MOI Security Command.
