    Camouflages of the Libyan Conflict

Post by Ben on Tue Mar 08, 2011 3:49 am

I know this isn't particularly OEF/OIF related, but it is a globally-known conflict, and it is a distinct that possibility external military forces may soon intervene. Either way, it's definitely been interesting to follow over the past couple of weeks.

I've been seeing a lot of photos coming out of Libya lately, and the sheer vastness of camouflage patterns being employed by both pro and anti-government forces is astounding. I've compiled a few photos showing all the different uniforms I have seen thus far. If anyone has any to add, please do so!

Can't quite tell, but looks like a dark chocolate chip pattern.

6 & 3 colour desert camo, as well as an M81 variant.

What appears to be UCP... photo quality leaves a bit to be desired, though.

    Dark chocolate chip variant.

    M81 variant.

Chocolate chip style pattern with what appears to be only one shade of brown.

    Blue chocolate chip.

3-colour desert and an unknown pattern. Interesting to note that the soldier in the foreground doesn't appear to be of Arab descent.

    More M81 variants.

    Unknown blue camo.

Another blue camouflage... kind of resembles DPM?

Another photo of blue chocolate chip.

What appears to be a 4-colour chocolate chip variant.

Sumpftarn variant. I believe this is the locally-produced variety.

    Dark blue M81 variant.

Mullets never seem to go out of style. lol!

Another shot of the sumpftarn in use.

This was too cool not to post.

The camo worn by the guy holding the RPG on the right looks a lot like the Hungarian "Pakistani" camo uniform, but I'm not sure...

Really dark blue/urban M81 variant on left.

    Hi Ben.

Your pic; 'another Sumpftarn in use' the gent with the beard on the left is wearing a WW2 British despatch rider's helmet.

    A great post though.

Found your other camo website the other night, really impressed.

I had wondered what kind of helmet that was... it's amazing the sheer variety of uniforms and kit being employed throughout this conflict.

Thanks for the website complement, I appreciate the visit! cheers

I love the mullet hair cut, Miami Vice- all is forgiven. affraid

It would be interesting to know if these camouflagues are actual issue uniforms for the Police & Army out there.

I can see the blue and dark patterns for the Police & the copy Choc Chip but the German 'Sumpfmeister' looks too green for their country?

Still a fascinating set of pictures and hat's off to anyone who's prepared to put their life on the line for freedom.

Where do they find these things? WW2 helmets, UCP, classic bad guy camouflages, blue camouflage (where'll that help?), etc.? Personally, I would rather wear civilian clothes than blue camouflage in the desert.

Hi kilroy the bleu camo is used by police men. The bleu is better camo in a mirage lol!

My guess is that uniforms are a hodgepodge of combinations at this point... I've seen photos of regular army units with no sense of uniformity as well.

I also like the warning triangle on the anti aircraft gun.

Nice to see they take road safety seriously

Maybe Libya will be the next "big one", and interesting combo of Camo demonstrated.

I'm pretty convinced there's more anti-aircraft guns than people in Libya. Laughing
Just take a look at many of the photos published; I think one is provided by the state at birth or something...
