Mk 6 -5 Colour cover and scrim.

Post by Easy Gee on Sun Aug 22, 2010 12:04 pm

    Hi Guys.
Here's another Mk 6 from my collection/display,this particular lid is the early type with the satin green finish, the later models had a textured matt finish to the shell.

This one has been recreated to represent a lid used by the para's in Iraq and Afgan, using a US 5-colour cover, and British Sniper veil scrim ,to subdue the colours of the US cover, and to blend in with the local terrain, this was De rigueur with the British para's,and looks pretty cool on display.

As ever all comments, will be most welcome, cheers Gary Wink

Very cool. Do you have any pics of British paratroopers with six color cover? I'm interested.

    Cheers Mate.

No sorry no pic's,but I researched this concept ,and in one of my Helmet collectors books I own (By Martin Brayley),he states that the brit Paras used US Choc Chip covers, and scrim netting on their Para lids, and used the Mk6 chinstraps as well, this was documented by Martin Brayley, whilst he served in Iraq.

I have seen some pics of Paras wearing this type of set up online.......but I can't remember which site it was...

Something that deserves more research for sure.... Wink

    Thanks for looking,cheers Gary.

It would be more authentic,if this cover/scrim,was on a Para lid......I have yet to source one of these lid's.....when I do I'll post it ASAP. Wink

I found an example of six color camo being used. But this is not like yours, because he is using six color camo netting, not fabric nor US helmet cover.

affraid In that case, I'll stick with German beers! Maybe the real reason their beers are crap, because they had invested too much time in creating a perfect tea. lol!

The Irish beer Sounds interesting,I will check this out in my offy or supermarket....

And your right about ebay, there's a couple of dedicated UK ebayer's who sell Brit desert kit, like the DPM covers ,scrim, rubber band's ( made from NBC boots) etc.

Not too expensive I suppose, but for you guy's the postage would probably make it a bum deal Wink

No, my friend owns Dragon & i'm kinda involved a bit there.

I was in the shop when that guy in the pic bought it I think as I kinda recognise him.

I probably ran it through the till, & yes I do wheel & deal, but i'm not a trader per se.

    I collect, I get issued, I sell.

Many Para's put different cam's under their nets, down to choice.

The CO's are now clamping down on this & not shaving & the like now.
