Iraqi ERU and ERD Banners Empty Iraqi ERU and ERD Banners

Post by BM Thu Jun 08, 2017 10:30 am

I just received these two banners from Iraq. Both are around 52 x 34 inches.
A shipment was sent to me back in the middle of March but my friend didn't know
that Baghdad Post Office decided to send their mail through Tehran, Iran of all places.

Needless to say, my shipment never got sent on so Baghdad P.O. fined Iran but the fine
didn't hardly even cover the postage.
My friend made good and refilled my order and sent it DHL and it only took 5 days to get here.
Baghdad P.O. is back to sending through Amman, Jordan again as they had a lot of problems with
    missing mail.

While looking through some videos, I came across this video of Major General
Thamer al-Husseini, Commander of the Rapid Reaction Division. Notice the ERD
    Banner in the background.

Really like the banners but love the story about the first package being sent through Iran. Nice additions.

    Jeff,
The last shipment was sent by DHL and got here in 7 days. Sending by USPS, it
takes from as little as 12 days to as long as 94 days. Where it sits, I have no idea.
The only thing I don't like about DHL is that we live about 110 miles from the nearest
office and they will sublet packages to a second party to deliver. We had a delivery date
for Wednesday but it showed up on Tuesday. They had our phone number to call us but
it was dropped off on Tuesday. No call, didn't have to sign for it which was on the order
to do and they never even rang the doorbell to let us know that they had been here. All
it said on the print out was "left at door". I called DHL and let them know about it and they
    were going to follow up.
At least it got here. Also costs more to send DHL.

    Bob,
To make a long story very short I had tangental involvement in dealing with a customs issue early OEF. Basically military members were "phoning home" with gear requests to their buddies, families, etc. It was then being shipped by all the different carriers but since it wasn't going through the APO/FPO system it was all hitting a choke point in customs warehouses in Karachi. No one was paying the customs fees. The story of your package and the follow up info remind me of that very unique story in my career.
