NCR Afghanistan Patch Empty NCR Afghanistan Patch

Post by Ewart Tue Jan 24, 2017 6:07 am

I have posted a picture of this patch on the Narcotics thread on this forum.

I'm just sticking it here to see if a wider audience can identify the Unit or Department this patch relates to.

Latin translates to - Always ready, always vigilant, always willing to

    Thanks in advance

I believe that the image file has information about which way your camera/phone was turned, and your computer uses that and automatically rotates it but the image host for the forum does not.

NCR Afghanistan might be Naval Construction Regiment http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=65369 That would be my guess.

    Semper Vigilans - Always Vigilant

    Sempter Volens - Always Willing

    i think NCR isn't our answer....i can't find a navy reference

This is a challenge coin (not mine)
    on the back is

    Technology
    Directorate
    Forward

"Powering the mission at the speed of war"

I don't recognize symbols or mottos, but maybe can be of help.

NCR Afghanistan Patch Empty Re: NCR Afghanistan Patch

Post by Zeked Wed Jan 25, 2017 12:13 pm

I took the information I found from the official US Navy website so I still leans towards it being a US Navy patch. (There is a copy and paste of the article below).
I am not able to say with any certainty whether I am correct or not; just what I found online.

One thing was news to me after I read the article was having the US Navy call a unit a a regiment rather than a battalion. I had not noticed the navy using regiments on construction units before I read that. I did find the homepage for the 22nd Naval Construction Regiment but the page was weak and no real information on it. There is some information on the unit online but nothing showing a patch like this. So the hunt continues!

I really like the rear of the challenge coin you posted taucco; simple and appealing to me anyway. Seems to me someone 'borrowed' someone else's logo and picture for their own use. It will give me something search for some night; makes me think of a contractor myself. Thank you all. Clete

NCR 22 Assumes Authority in CENTCOM AOR; Operations Begin

    Story Number: NNS120216-02Release Date: 2/16/2012 5:27:00 AM

By Chief Mass Communication Specialist Jason Carter, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 7 Public Affairs

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (NNS) -- The 30th Naval Construction Regiment (NCR), Task Force Forager, transitioned to the 22nd NCR, Task Force Stethem, during a transfer of authority (TOA) ceremony, Feb. 16, 2012, on Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan.

The 30th NCR, from Port Hueneme, Calif., served as the command and control element for Task Force Forager, which was responsible for construction engineering and engineering support in Southern, Southwestern and Western Afghanistan.

The TOA's officiating officer, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. William E. Rapp, deputy commanding general for Support, commended the task force for its many successes during its six-month deployment.

"You need to be extremely proud of your accomplishments," Rapp said.

Task Force Forager and 30th NCR Chief Staff Officer, U.S. Navy Cmdr. Erik Karlson, said the task force did an amazing job supporting the mission in Afghanistan and the Afghan people, and thanked all of his subordinate commands for their hard work.

"It has been an absolute honor to have served with you," Karlson said.

Task Force Forager performed numerous engineering missions such as water wells, which provided clean water for Afghan villages, placed and repaired bridges and partnered with Afghan military engineers to aid in the smooth transition to Afghan leadership.

U.S. Navy Capt. Kathryn A. Donovan, Task Force Stethem and 22nd NCR Commodore, said her team was honored to take over such an important mission from such a classy command.

"We are very excited to work with the coalition and our service partners," Donovan said.

The 22nd NCR, from Gulfport, Miss., was previously deployed to Afghanistan from February to August 2010. The regiment is made up of approximately 90 U.S. Navy Seabees and support staff.

Your research is right, but as i said it doesn't look like symbology usually associated with the USN.

Correct me if i am wrong but the eagle holding a key is associated with the NSA even if i don't recognize this emblem with the eagle holding both a key and arrows (i recall key and lock, or only the big key). But i can't find NCR reference.

Another wild guess, Department of homeland security has a Science and Technology directorate, but the only NCR i could find is "National capital region" but it makes no sense to me.

unless NCR is for "National Capital Region" meaning the Kabul area, but i don't remember hearing this designation.

I also found national capital region in a list of government/military acronyms, and also thought of the Kabul area, but I found a .gov website talking about the NCR and it only talked about DC and no other nations, so I don't that that it is.

Great point, this one is an oddball that is for sure. I had not looked at what the symbolism on the patch might indicate. Still an interesting patch.

This is an interesting thread. Digging deep in the rabbit hole, I may have identified the obverse of the coin above. The "Technology Directorate" I think is related to the "Defense Technology Security Administration"

    http://www.dtsa.mil/SitePages/about-dtsa/directorates/technology/default.aspx

Even at that though, their logo doesn't match (and neither does anything else I've looked at) on the front of the coin. I think clearly though that logo is the federal eagle over Afghanistan/federal power etc.

I think the patch is probably related to the National Capital Region in some form or fashion. With the word "Forward" emblazoned on the one side, it points to this unit/organization being deployed 'forward' to Afghanistan. Although I will admit that finding anything about a deployment seems impossible. Just my 2 cents but I'd love to see this solved!

Well guys thanks for the inputs.

That's a great challenge coin there taucco. And the only other time I've seen this logo. Some great starting points for when I fire up the computer later.

    Glad it's bought some discussion.

There is a possibility that the NCR in this case refers to Kabul - the NCR of Afghanistan. It just has the look of an embassy coin to me. Perhaps a group deployed to Afg supporting operations in Kabul working out of the American Embassy.

I now believe that it is National Capital Region related.

a Task Force from the Marine Corps National Capital Region (TF NCR 2007–2008) also deployed to Ashraf.

This case is Iraq, but it looks like units related to the National Capital Region can deploy.

Cap if it was purely a Marine Corps unit it could very well have been CBIRF or possibly Marines deployed from Marine Barracks 8th and I

You might also want to look at this unit
