    Hey guys,

If there is anyone else out there that has jumped in the military.....hats off to you. I got in about 34 jumps when I was with the 82nd Airborne back in the late 80's. I got busted up pretty good a few times (usually on the night mass-attack full combat equipment jumps). Seen quite a few of my comrades get busted up worse than I did....

Anyway, I have never seen such f#ck-ups at the door.... affraid , I wonder how many got injured on this jump (i.e. static line injuries)?
I feel sorry for the US Jumpmasters and Safeties who handle the static lines and are ultimately held accountable for actions on the aircraft....

    Enjoy~

The jump master for the Bright Star exercise had no reservations about putting his boots to good use for the few who seemed to have second thoughts about exiting the bird. Laughing

An issue we had with many of the Arab forces' Airborne units was EXTREME fear! In Jordan, many of their Paratroops would start throwing up before the aircraft even started to taxi up the runway. Evidently, it was common to see Jordanians self-induced vomiting ... jump would often be scratched, and the Jordanians would still receive credit for the jump! I suppose just boarding a military aircraft counted.

I got my Egyptian Jump Wings for jumping with them in Bright Star ('95), and am a recipient of the Egyptian Commando Badge for having been assigned as an advisor to the Egyptian 9th Ranger Regiment during the First Gulf War.

Not all countries have the robust training program the US does, and not all paratroopers are volunteers. I wonder what Sustained Airborne Training looks like in Egypt, or if they even have a mock up..

Jumped several times with the Kenyan Army's 20th Parachute Bn. While the Kenyan troops are very professional Soldiers, the majority of them were generally petrified when came time to jump! As they're former British colony and still follow British uniforms, customs, etc ... Their Jumpmasters were called by the English term "Dispatcher."

We always jumped their DHC-5 aircraft - off the back ramp. The Kenyan Dispatchers literally had to grab hold of the Kenyan jumpers and physically throw them off the ramp and out of the aircraft!

When we Americans made our way to the ramp to jump, we played "dodge the Dispatcher," whereby we had to wriggle and slide around them to keep them from grabbing us. Eventually they were informed that the Americans actually LIKE to jump. After this, they would issue us our jump commands and then step out of the way and let us walk off the ramp!

On the other hand, I deployed to Zaire (now known as the "Democratic Republic of the Congo") in the early 1980's. We trained with their 31st Parachutist Bde, and these troops actually LOVED to jump! Most of these Soldiers were significantly physically smaller/shorter than we Americans. This being the case, the majority of them made standing landings when they hit the DZ (the Zairian Paratroops referred to standing landings as "Rambos.")

Landing, while executing the universally trained and practiced Parachute Landing Fall (PLF) was referred to by them as "Rolly Polies."

    Bryanbg,

Everyone has had unique experiences that others will most likely never have. It is always valuable to share and add to the knowledge base of all.

    Thanks,
