Hi, A collecting buddy of mine self-published a book on Iragi Militaria. 157 pages of color pictures of patches, badges and medals. Softcover only. Cost is $50 per copy plus postage. Scan image bluriness is intentional. If interested in a copy let me know and I will send you the author's contact information. Thanks Clete

Moved this reference work message to the BOOK section. "Shadow Message" left in the original MARKETPLACE area as reference.

Does anyone know if he still sell the book listed above? I am new to collecting Iraqi items and I think it would be a great addition to have.

it's a great book and packed with info and photos. Almost nothing out there about Iraq insignia so this is a must have!

Re: Iraqi Military Reference Guide
Well I got my book. I fingered through it for a few min. i would recommend this book for anyone who is collecting Iraqi military.
Just a though on the book if you do another one. could use more uniform and helmet coverage. no tying to cause trouble but giving input.

Ha I tried to talk Bob into doing vol 2, 3, 4............... It's a pretty heavy undertaking and i don't think Bob really wants to, but I bet he'd be glad to offer moral support to someone else!! I goofed around for a couple years to do a book on post hussein insignia and history but never got past the first few pages so big kudos to Bob for actually doing it!

I think it would be great if Bob did a volume II! I know he is retired and has the time.... But I also agree it is a huge undertaking and the fact he published any sort of book puts him light years in front of me! Volume I is a great book Bob, nice work! Clete

Re: Iraqi Military Reference Guide
A "Thank You" to all who have purchased my book over the years.
Yes, publishing a book is quite an undertaking. There was a couple of times I just wanted to quit. I used what I had in my collection
so I wouldn't have to remember to give credit to people who had borrowed pictures to me. I had plenty of offers.
The last thing a publisher needs is someone to get pi**ed off because you forgot to give credit to him. Being sued is always a possibility.
The reason I don't have much on uniforms or helmets is because we have a small house so we don't have much extra room plus
I don't know much about them. It is bad enough having patches, badges and medals and having them in Rykor Mounts. Some I have framed out and hanging up in a couple of rooms. When you have so many, it's hard to display them all.
Things coming out of Iraq have really slowed down lately. A lot of Police Checkpoints scattered throughout the city has really slowed
down the traffic so it takes so much longer to get anywhere. The danger level has really gone up to.

Ryan,
Suggestions are good when done in the right context like you did. I call them constructive comments. I've been toying with doing another book pretty much on patches, badges and medals again. I have a set of Iraqi Tanker, Civil Defense and Air force Coveralls to add in plus two Iraqi helmets. One of the helmets is an original Fedayeen Helmet.
One of the comments from people who have purchased my book also said they wanted more close ups of the items.
Some of my pictures came out darker than I would have liked so I am working on making them brighter.
Others wondered why I chose to do my book with a comb binding. My reasoning is that the book can be laid flat and it will stay open to that page. I have had books that are glued suddenly break in the spine and then it will always open to that page plus the pages start falling out.
Even if mine start tearing out, it could be replaced with out a big expense.
Thanks again for your purchase and comment.
Bob
P.S. Maybe someone will be doing a book on Iraqi Uniforms, Helmets and (or) Field Gear.

Re: Iraqi Military Reference Guide
The loop binding you used was perfect for just the reasons you site Bob.
I'm wondering if it'd be easier to just go straight to a .pdf file. I'm sure their must be some way to encrypt to make it not so easy to make digital copies of. but certainly easier to eliminate the printing aspect. Although I'm old school and I like to have the physical paper in my hand.

There is a member here in the final stages of completing just such a reference.
