    Blackhawk plate carrier

Post by Mercenary25 on Mon Apr 26, 2010 5:16 pm

I recently got this plate carrier. The tags have been removed but it looks very much like blackhawk design so assuming it is BHI.

I discovered that this type of plate carrier was quite popular with Navy Seals. Take a look at the following reference photos. They like to wear this plate carrier over soft body armor.

    Cheers.

I'll have to admit something.....even though I collected Special Forces items, I rarely did any studying on the SEALs until recently. I did a lot of research on US Army Special Forces and USAF Special Forces. I never really studied about the SEALs because I could never afford gear or uniforms associated with them and because you normally don't get SEAL gear this far inland. Laughing

Recently, I began looking at pictures for reference and concentrated more on learning about the Naval Special Forces. One thing I did notice was that the SEALs do use a lot of plate carriers. I never really how extensively they were used in OEF/OIF. Thanks for bringing this fact to the members knowledge, Merc. Wink Can't wait to see pics of the carrier!

Jealous? Thank god I made an OEF/OIF King jealous! Laughing

I have a little situation here..... Do SAPI plates come in different sizes? I have a source who come across plates from time to time. This carrier doesn't have any tags so I have no way of knowing its size.

Yes...plates do come in various sizes. Your best bet is to go to Blackhawk website and try to match up your vest with pictures there. After that, you can figure out what size plates you need. Very Happy

Yes....you made me jealous. Vests and plate carriers are bitch to find and usually fetch high prices. You did well for yourself, sir!

Ask P-E or JKin for their advice. They are the resident body armor and plate carrier experts.

The SEALs in the pics have Allied Ind. MBSS plate carriers. The one you have is, I hate to say, a Chinese are replica. It isnt BHI, the BHI ones had "BLACKHAWK!" engraved on the inside, and the nylon coloring is off.

Are you sure? According to my buddy, he found it in surplus store. Well, I just asked him for a refund. I'm sure he would be cool with it.

Yeah, they are extremely common at surplus stores. A local surplus store near me is stocked full of imported Chinese knock offs.

I guess you're right. According to many USMF members, Asian replicas usually have no tags and webbing colour is little off.
