Unknown plate carrier/LBV? Empty Unknown plate carrier/LBV?

Post by sargencolo Sun Apr 14, 2013 2:00 pm

I found this at a local flea market recently and cannot identify it. I cannot locate a tag, writing, or identifying marks. It isn't necessarly off-color (olive drab), it has been painted (sand color), and the ruck is not detachable. It also has a pocket for hydration, but no individual pocket for plates (in back). There seams to be two pockets for large, and small plates on front. The velcro(ed) pouch on front(top) and magazine (single) pouch in front came with it. I will attempt to post photos now. Plz be patient!

you have a MBSS plate carrier with the so called "spine" back portion, which accomodates a plate smaller than the usual SAPI.

Thanks for your reply taucco. I did a quick google, and found alot of airsoft queries. Has this plate carier any military significance?, Would it be common to find knock-offs? thanks again, arron

Just real quick, I think I figured out whether this is airsoft, or some sort of mil issue! in one of my pics you can see a faint pink-colored star at bottom of front. I think thats gonna be paintball of some sort. And it was a little odd that this thing looks salty, but the insert pockets were reasonably clean! Oh well, maybe next time. I'm pretty cheesed about finding this style, because I don't have any plate carriers at all. Smile

That's no paintball marking, that's from simunitions. Military training rounds. As Taucco said, is is an MBSS Plate Carrier. Made by Allied Industries. The pack, triple mag, and admin are original to the kit, looks like an operator mod adding the shoulder pads. Even has riggers rubber bands for commo/hydration tube. Great find, definitely authentic.

Original. This type of plate carrier was popular among Navy SEALs. MBSS kit has a decent value to it.

Taucco, doubletap, and Mercenary25; thank you all for your responses! I have some doubts as to authinticity (with all due respect!)because of where I'm located. I'm not far from Ft. Carson (4thID, 10SFG), but not many SEAL teams (I'm what you might call land-locked Shocked ). I would like to say that with what I've read on this forum, and seen, I am always looking for the good stuff, but still don't know authintic from fakes. I was able to pickup some other random items also, and will post pics soon. I have more questions on some the other items also, and will sign-off on that.
    thanks again, arron

It is not out of the realm of possiblity that it was used by someone in the 10th SFG. I would have no problem adding this to my collection.

Thanks for the words of wisdom nkomo. I found a thread from Col Kurtz with pics of these carriers in it. I'm not to certain how to insert the link, but his thread is titled: hot enrties, field and personal gear from OEF and OIF board. I will talk to the guy I bought it from hopefully this weekend, and maybe get more info on it. thanks again to all of you,

    It would be great.
If that guy was a former 10th SFG it would be a great story to hear cause that plate carrier was only issued to Navy Seals guys at that time (2000-2004).

Just because something was issued to a specefic group doesn't mean that it wasn't used by another group as well. Soldiers are in combat and use what works. The Allied Industries MBSS is a tried and proven quality piece of equipment.

I tried to quote Beppe_goodoldrebel, and Mercenary25, but can't quite figure that one out yet! confused However, I am only 30 and some change miles from NORAD. Very good possibility that could be the scenario. The guy I got it from said he buys from soldiers, so hopefully the weather will be good this weekend, and I will see if he has any more info on it. I also picked up an AN/PVS-78 night vision goggle bag, with the headset (don't no if that is what it is called), but no goggles??? Shocked I don't know alot about it yet, but will do research later.
    thanks, Arron

This is a really neat piece of kit, good flea market find! Never knew they were in use with CCT, so thanks Beppe for the pics.

Also, since no one has mentioned it yet, the shoulder pads are also a typically nsw-issue item from that era, from the MLCS kit, it looks like.

It has been a bit since I have updated. I have been trying to gather as much knowledge on this item (everything I i have learned about it has come from this awsome site!), and a few other items I have that I cannot identify their use. I talked to the guy I purchased the plate carrier from, and he is from the Ft. Carson area. He travels my way to sell the goods he aquires from there. He said that he thinks he remembers the guy he bought it from, and will try to get more info on it when the chance arrives. I did get my sellers contact info for future finds.
On to the next one: I have tried in vain to figure this one out. Not having any luck though. I got this from another local seller, and know the manufacturer, but not the purpose. Made by SOTech (I have an SOTech IFAK), and I assume from the looks that its is some kind of med. roll, pack, etc. It doesn't have an NSN. It came empty. WARNING: some pics may be blurry. My Camera isn't the greatest and I try to pick the best ones. If more pics are needed, just ask please.

Thanks taucco! I have been all-over the sotech website and couldn't find that item. I didn't even realize there was such an item. I'm going to do some research on it, because I still don't know how the shock tube works. I would assume that its similar to det-cord. Thanks again taucco, arron
