    USMC Interceptor Vest

    Post by Ben on Sun Mar 28, 2010 3:00 am

    Got this at a surplus shop back in September. The guy had it labeled as a flak jacket. I saw it and almost ran out of the store before he changed his mind on letting me have it at such a good price! Laughing

    It's only got the inner kevlar filler, no ballistic plates of any sort, no crotch flap or neck guard either. But I'm still happy to have it in my collection.

    Thats a great steal man..these things are SUPER hard to find with the plates in them, but the ones with just the regular sort kevlar are still really nice. Speaking of it, how much did you pay?

    I was lucky enough to snag it for $80... Which was why I seriously hoofed it out of the store before the guy had a chance to change his mind! lol!

    I would have had that thing clutched in my greedy paws and out the door in a flash if I found one for that price too!For some reason, the coyote brown USMC interceptor vests are a lot harder to find than the ACU ones.

    Funny, I have DCU IBA vest but lacking soft inserts. The inserts are too hard to find! My best bet is to find another vest with inserts.

    I go out to the shop often hoping to find some other random "good item" but so far, since this one, haven't found anything crazy. But it's a really cool store to go into nonetheless. Cool

    I've one complete OTV/IBA from Point Blank body armor in coyote. And I also have the shoulder protective, that are realy realy rare to find. See by yourself ;

    (official photo - USMC)

    (I did it myself, to show each parts of the complete body armor, every items are in my collection).

    For the shoulder protection, the only information I find is this official use and care sheet from Point Blank ;

    And some pictures ;

    and I have some others pictures you can find at this link : http://picasaweb.google.com/militariabelgium/ArmorProtectionEnhancementSystemAPESInCoyoteTanUSMCEXPERIMENTAL#5337840308188307202

    this shoulder protection is called "APES - Armor Protection Enhancement System". It was made specificaly (~ 2004) for gunner in turret of vehicles inside convoy. Then, it was replaced by another system, called Quadgard :

    I also have two differents systems of side protection. The first one I have is from PPI ;

    And the other one is from Med-eng :

    Note : the US Army have 6x6 plates in their side-protection and the USMC have 6x8.

    I just bought coyote tan IBA vest with soft inserts. I have two SAPI plates handy so it's perfect! It came from OIF veteran.
