    Embroidered Cap.

I believe it is a CIF team cap.

    All input is welcome....

Nice cap but I do not see it as CIF. Not sure what the 7 signifies but I translate C 2/3 as C Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd SFG(A). That is not the CIF for/of 3rd Group.

My only problem on this one is the 7...because there's no ODA that ends with 7 in the 3rd SFG...

But sometimes we can see :

    But then it's 7th SFG...not the 3rd SFG...

So I've no idea...the C/2/3 is different of the 7th SFG...

There is no ODA in any of the Groups that ends with 7.

A couple of things come to mind:

    - Might the seven be an operator's team name or part thereof?

    - Could it stand for a deployment OEF7 or OIF7? Usually see these as Roman numerals (OEFVII or OIFVII) however.

I admit neither of these are very good theories!

Based on informations I have, it existed an ODA 137...Charlie Co, 1st Btn, 1st SFG. This information come from an official sources and I was able to confirm it with additional researches. I found two different sources that makes a reference to the ODA 137 (one is official source dated 2009-2010)... That's the only ODA that ends with a 7 I listed.

But I don't know if this ODA was reorganized or not with the additional 4th battalion in each SFG, because I found no reference to an ODA 1137...

I doubt seriously the 7 is for OEF or OIF VII...then, you'ld find the reference to Iraq or Afghanistan. This symbol, the "De oppresso Liber" seal with the 7 is usualy an unofficial seal of the 7th SFG.

But well, I've no explanation of this... maybe a mistake made by the embroiderer, maybe a commercial items with a mistake,...

    Again, that's just my opinion...

The only thing I think is that may be the number of years in SF. I know the US Special Forces Association used the Roman numerals for years in Special Forces (typically X or XX, ect).

Okay....I'm going throw out an idea here. I think the C 2/3 may have nothing to do with an ODA team at all. COULD this be a team ranking system? For instance, C company 2nd ranking officer. I know this may sound a bit far-fetched, but SF used something similar during Vietnam with the MACV-SOG teams.

I have a real Blackwater t-shirt in my collection that has a VERY similar ranking system on the left sleeve. Since Blackwater didn't wear rank, they could glance over a see on the sleeve the exact ranking (2/6 or 4/6) of the person on the team. The lower the number on the sleeve, the higher the rank or position of the person on the team. I'm not saying this is the case here on MZ's cap, but it is a thought.

There is an ODA 3127 in 3rd SFG, but 1st Bat B Company so. Maybe it's a newly formed ODA, it seams the ball cap looks brand new.

The logo on the front reminds me very much of the symbol of a local Fire Department, they call themselves "The Black Sheep".
