Couldn't help noticing the two Soldiers wearing Woodland uniforms. What's up with that in Iraq?

It happened the same way in Desert Shield / Desert Storm.

Some units aren't "high priority" enough to get desert fatigues, or they would just get enough so that each solder only gets one set.

Over in the sandbox (1990/1991) it was common to see guys from the same unit wearing 6-color desert, 3-color desert (which was new at the time) and woodland BDUs.

As time passes, of course, the supply chain catches up and makes it so everybody can wear the same uniform.

My unit deployed in 1990 with woodland BDUs and NEVER got issued desert fatigues of any kind (the "war" just didn't last that long, I guess).

Thank you, I kind of suspected it might have something to do with some units being deployed around more fertile parts of Iraq were green would make more sense.

What I find interesting about this picture is that the soldier wearing the woodland BDU has his 4th ID patch sewn over a HUGE shadow of another patch. To me, it looks like the former patch may have been the 1st Cav. Good thread, fellers!!!

Looks too small to be that by my eyes Arch. Possibly 2ID? They don't call the 1st Cav SSI the "Horse Blanket" for its smaller size Very Happy And it wasn't uncommon to have the ghost of previous commands showing. Many of mine had them, those that lasted long enough that is.

Arch, thanks for mentioning it. I did notice it earlier when I first posted this picture but didn't mention it. It is a great example that soldiers get re-issued with old BDU/DCU's. Generally many collectors would think if there is a ghost of different patch on the uniform means it is fake/put-together piece.

I think you maybe correct, Mike. Could very easily be 2nd ID.

Or even a big Reserve or NG SSI. Some of those get some size to them. Good eyes to notice though; I whiffed on it completely .....
