Show Your United States Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC) Insignia Here!

Post by kriegsmodell on Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:03 am

Perhaps it's just me but for whatever reason I have really had a tough time locating MARSOC related insignia. Starting this post in hopes that other members have examples to contribute.

This is a theatre made in Afghanistan patch for Special Operations Task Force-West, a MARSOC lead effort in Herat Province during the late Summer and Fall of 2009.

Note the shield design of the patch in the Afghanistan colors with the constellation of stars from USMC heritage going back to the the Second World War. The patch is backed with black velcro.

"My God, where do we find these men?" President George H. W. Bush commenting on 1st SFOD-Delta after the Operation Acid Gambit rescue of Kurt Muse.

"Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here am I. Send me." - Inscription on the dog tag resting on the flag-draped homeward bound casket of an American Special Opearations warrior killed in action in Afghanistan, July 2005. - Dick Couch - Chosen Soldier

This patch is from Special Operations Task Force 82 another MARSOC lead effort in Afghanistan (Bagram) in this instance by the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion. This patch is also theatre made and backed with black velcro.

The patch combines the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion's Raider stiletto on a shield with constellation as in the previous example. The shield is again in the Afghanistan National Colors. The insignia also incorporates a skull reminiscent of the Marine Raiders and wings which speak to the unit's special operations capabilities.

A decent theatre made Afghanistan example of the USMC MARSOC insignia. Just received this from a good friend deployed to AStan. The patch has reasonable quality embroidery and is backed with black velcro. These forces are the USMC special operations component assigned to USSOCOM.

    Nes and Rob,

Thanks for the comments! Nes, I think the W on the first patch stands for the Task Force's geographic orientation - West.

Nice patches Sirs. I never come across patches (other than the plain jane stuff)for some reason. I think they are small and easier to stick in a drawer so guys keep them.

    Again, nice ones.

Nice collection, fellers. I also habe trouble finding these type patches. I think Rob hit the nail on the head when he said they are easier to store than gear or uniforms, so people have a tendencey to keep them more.

Nice patches Lance. I find Marine stuff is always a bit harder to find due to their smaller force size. The Marines are smaller and that makes their special forces type troops a pretty small group. Plus Marines are not big patch wearers in general and have pretty much eliminated them over the last 60+ years. Anyway nice patches!
