In this AP photo, you can see Afghan enlisted soldiers wearing both the metal and cloth version of the beret badges. Note the soldier with the cloth version is a Sgt.

Afghan soldiers participate in a memorial service for an Afghan Army officer who was killed in an insurgent ambush a day earlier, at Forward Operating Base Howz-e-Madad, in Zhari district, Kandahar province, southern Afghanistan, on Friday.

Nice one Mate, like it a lot, I wonder why the Berets all appear to be slighty different shades of Green..

Thanks mfor showing your beret, Aussie! Very nice used condition!

As far as the different colors, I am not 100% sure why the colors are different. Different manufacturer lots?

I have five different beret crests. Two are the same shape as the patch type in post #1 but they have a red background and the other has a black background. Two are round with a gold thread design of the crest found on the Afghan flag but with a thick wreath; one has a maroon background and the other a black background. I picked these up in Parwan during my 2009 - 2010 deployment. The last one is a metal pin like in the first post. This one was sent to me from a friend training ANA in Ghazni. I want to post a pic but I still can not post to this site.

id say they are ANA cloth officer beret badges, i have two similar,
the dark or green version is the standard cloth officers version, the maroon version is more commonly worn by senior officers LT COL and above, or so i found anyway, heres some of mine
