Thought you guys might be a bit interested in this...I just got my hands on a 2007 dated CADPAT boonie that I compared to my 2002 dated Helmet cover. The CADPAT pattern was first issued in 2002 and this is presumably the first pattern. It looks quite different up close

This is comparing the neck flap of both the boonie and the helmet cover, these are both in near mint condition and havent faded at all.

the first pattern has been used in 2002, but I m not sure that your boonie hat dated 2007 is an official issue. Do you ahve the number on it??

I sampled the camo pattern from the Neck flap of both the helmet cover and the Boonie because they were not faded at all.

Here is the helmet cover, im not 100% on the date..it really isnt clearly dated at all. Is it earlier?

I really like that pattern. Shame it's so restricted and hard to get hold of. Laughing

Helmet covers were the first items issued in about 1997. At that time they had problems with printing the pattern and severe fading resulting in a 2 year delay in other items being procured & issued.

As Recon brought up, the first CADPAT was the helmet cover. TW Cadpat one side, white on the other. Then they changed it up with a darker underside. When I went on my first Roto to the sandbox we were equipt with version 1 TW Cadpat late 2001. Which was not the smart thing to do as we stuck out in the desert.

Even on the current made items the colors can vary, especially on different fabrics. The early helmet covers were a heavier material than the current issue which has an effect on the appearance.
