Thanks for posting these pics, Merc. Do you see that woodland camouflage bag I circled in the first picture? That is a Skedco portable stretcher and I bought one of those down at Bragg several years ago. Very nice to see a picture of it in use!
Here is a link to the Skedco website detailing the stretcher: http://www.skedco.com/Military/Detail/sk-200-gr

Silly question but are those an issue item for special ops? Private purchase?

Re: Desert Tiger Stripes
I will have to dig in order to find it, but I have seen a photo of UKSF troops in the early days of Iraq wearing desert tiger stripe uniforms.
Not sure if there was a shortage of DDPM (that's the story I've heard) or if they were just wearing non-standard uniforms, as SF-types oftentimes do.

Singaporean ISAF soldiers wearing desert tiger.

SF-types wearing desert tiger (I have read they are SEALs, but I am not sure).

Greek desert tiger camo -- not "official" Tiger Stripe branded desert camo as shown above, but interesting to compare the patterns.

Re: Desert Tiger Stripes
So far, a set of the desert tiger has eluded me. I remember back in 2001/2002 time period, I was offered a set that was "supposedly" worn by a member of the 19th SFG on his tour in A-Stan. I laughed at the time as I was unaware that the SF guys were actually using this pattern. Fasty forward to today and I'm kicking myself in the rump for not buying a set for $20.

Re: Desert Tiger Stripes
I was finally able to find a Desert Tiger Stripe top that is attributed to a Special Forces soldier. This belonged to a Major in the 3rd Special Forces Group who has done numerous tours in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq.
This a commercial desert tiger stripe shirt made by Tru-Spec. These are not official issue items, but various SF units do use them on a limited basis.

Nice one, arch! Even used plain uniform (unpatched or unmodified) is so rare.

Nice pics and Jacket guys .
For future ref: Bulle sell a lot of these commercial tiger stripes, and are on par with Truspec stuff. I suspect that's what the SBS guys are wearing in Ben's UKSF pic.

Thanks! I was stoked to finally find one with provenance. I also noticed that in the pictures posted above, there are soldiers wearing modified desert tigers and unmodified desert tigers. It is nice to see these in use in the field.

I have seen some commercial UBACS (looks very similar) but I haven't seen one made in tiger stripe yet.

Re: Desert Tiger Stripes
Did a little research and found this little small paragraph on Tiger Stripe Products website. They say:
Tactical Response Uniform - Combat Shirt
* Sorry, but the manufacturer does not currently make
a Desert Tiger Combat Shirt. They would need an order
of at least 2000 units to be able to manufacture this item.
NOW....did the US supply the NDS with the desert tiger combat shirts? Did the Chinese make them for the Afghan Government? I doubt we will ever know positively. One thing we do know is that if the order is large enough, Tiger Stripe Products will make them.

Re: Desert Tiger Stripes
It has elbow reinforcements just like BDU/DCU. I'll say it is either professionally modified (using tru-spec commercial BDU cut or UBACS. (highly unlikely because I haven't seen them made in tiger stripe despite the fact the shirt in picture shows exact cut of UBACS). Not tru-spec's combat shirt because it is closely resemble of Army's issue ACS (note the different kind of pockets on the sleeves and it is lacking the collar zipper). Beside according to this site, they haven't made it yet.

Re: Desert Tiger Stripes
All the pockets (except the pen pocket) have been removed from this jacket. I have seen this done on several other modifieds and I think it was done because when the armor is worn, the pockets become useless.
