It's kind of odd to see British military personnel with an AR-type weapon... now that both the US & UK are wearing MultiCam of some sort, and not to mention the fact the MK7 looks kind of similar to the ACH helmet at first glance, these new Afghanistan photos could get somewhat confusing! Laughing

Very good point Ben, when I first saw these pic's ,at a glance I thought they WERE U.S. troops....which is fine by me ,as I personally prefer the new kit ,over the old dated kit that the UK forces have had to endure for far too long.....

I'm jealous though ,in my day it was Olive lightweight trousers, itchy shirts ,and wooly pullys....now look at the cool kit these guy's get to wear !!!!!

I am well impressed with the look of the new weapons too....welcome to the 21st century Britain. Very Happy Wink

You could always re-enlist to get some new kit! Laughing
It is indeed interesting to see how far battlefield technology has come since the conflicts in the Middle East began back in 2001 and 2003, respectively. Many changes have definitely been for the better! cheers

:lol!:Ben,to be honest I'm too old,and unfit, I don't reckon I could even do the B.F.T ( Basic Fitness Test) now!!!

And your right ,it's amazing how far the kit ,has come since the early 90's,which is of the utmost importance for the guys and girls in the field right now Wink

I miss the look of Early RMC (Royal Marines Commandos) in Afghanistan (2001-02 time period). Woodland DPM top, desert DPM pants, black combat boots, MK helmet with desert cover, and PLCE web gear. Very unique looking, IMO.

Yeah good point Merc, the RM's did look the business back then, interestingly,a couple of my mates who live locally and "work" from the local base,do not wear MTP,and are still wearing Temperate DPM, I have yet to see any Armed Forces personnel wearing MTP in this country....DPM is not dead yet, that's for sure.... Royal Marines from 42 Commando pictured during Operation Sond Chara, Helmand Province, Afghanistan, 2008. Note : the soldier with the dog is from the Royal Army Veterinary Corps (RAVC). RAVC soldiers are often attached to 3 Commando Brigade / 16 Air Assault Brigade elements in Afghanistan where they employ their highly-trained dogs to sniff out drugs and explosives. Cool

I've got some good photos on my home computer of Royal Marines that I'll have to dig up once I'm on it -- some of which are of the excellent camouflage mixing Merc was talking about.

Royal Marines in Afghanistan don't often have to call on their skills as an amphibious unit. But around Kajaki, their ability to operate on the water as well on the land makes them an especially useful force.Royal Marines cleared a Taliban base, consisting of 25 compounds, near the Kajaki hydroelectric dam, in an effort to help bring stability and power to Afghanistan.

" Osama, oh yes he's taken some time off,to go DIY shopping with his wife, they are going to be Painting the Kitchen soon,I hear he want's a nice neutral tone,to match the kitchen cupboards." ....Or something along those lines I would guess Laughing
